What Do KraftMaid Cabinets Cost Compared to Other Custom Cabinets?

by Aretha Grant

KraftMaid is by far one of the most recognizable names in the semi-custom cabinet industry, but are they the only game in town? Not by a long-shot. Let's compare and contrast KraftMaid Cabinets costs with other companies who offer built-to order units. (Keep in mind that quotes can vary from dealer to dealer.)

KraftMaid Cabinets vs. Cost of Other Cabinets

  • Cabico: Custom-built Cabico cabinets can run you a little more than a KraftMaid unit. But one thing that is important to consider is that Cabico is a full-custom company and KraftMaid is semi-custom. In other words, if you want to design you cabinets down to the last inch, Cabico would be worth the extra money. But if you're willing to choose between KraftMaids styles and add your own flair, then you could save money going with them.
  • American Woodmark: This company sells exclusively at Home Depot, who also sell KraftMaid. Amercian Woodmark can be cheaper than KraftMaid--they have a few different lines with various price points, but they also have a semi-custom line comparable to KraftMaid. Check with your nearest home improvement store for specific questions about pricing.
  • Adephi Cabinets: This Pennsylvania-based custom cabinetry company has been around for 60 years. Generally, KraftMaid cabinets cost less than most Adelphi cabinets, but Adelphi is known for their commitment to handmade quality.

These are just some of the other custom cabinet manufacturers that are out there. Merrilat, Medallion, MasterBrand Dura Supreme are some others. Moral of the story? Shop around. Don't just buy the first thing that you see when you walk into your nearest home improvement store.

If top-of-the-line custom cabinetry is what you want, you should also look up local craftsmen in your area and ask them for free consultations. While it may often be true that the smaller the company, the higher the price, if you want custom cabinetry, it's the quality and the "wow factor" that may ultimately be more important to you than the cost.
