Kitchen Design Considerations: Your Kitchen Faucet

by Shannon Dauphin

Once upon a time, kitchen faucets were simple, functional elements in a kitchen. They did nothing to stand out. Today's kitchen faucets can be more like works of art, with smooth flowing lines or modern angles. Here are a few kitchen design and faucet trends to inspire you.

Faucets and Kitchen Design

Do any of these ideas suit your fancy for the perfect faucet?

  • Wall mount faucets are becoming more popular, especially in more modern kitchen design. Rather than use the common design of a faucet that juts out over the top of the sink, wall mount faucets are perfect for farmhouse apron sinks, deep porcelain sinks, and other unique configurations.
  • Pull down faucets are quickly replacing the optional spray mechanism. These faucets work like a typical faucet most of the time, but when you pull down on the spout, the faucet can become a sprayer. Less room is required on your kitchen sink for the separate sprayer, and the convenience cannot be denied.
  • Filtered water faucets include a mechanism that filters impurities out of the water. Rather than attaching to the head of the faucet, filtered systems are often under the cabinet, filtering out the water long before it comes up to the tap.
  • Hygienic faucets are also becoming more popular. Rather than touch anything on the sink, you simply wave your hand in front of the motion sensor and the water flow starts. This works very well for kitchen prep, as you can wash foods and your hands without the risk of transferring germs to the faucet.

Other trends in kitchen faucets include different colors for faucets, rather than the typical chrome, porcelain, or stainless steel. The arch, swing, and design options of kitchen faucets are virtually endless. Which kitchen faucet style works best for your new kitchen design?
