Q.
I am attempting to construct an island out of some cabinets I bought. I will have to make my own countertop. I am looking for a step by step guide to laminate countertops. Any tricks you have will be quite helpful.
A: The cheapest way will probably be to buy a slab 36 inches wide that is already pre-formed. It would be cheaper to do this than purchase all the required materials separately. The core of the countertop is ¾ of an inch particleboard. Strips of particleboard are screwed to this to build up the perimeter. You attach laminate to this with adhesive. You then trim all the edges with a router.
